Budh Stotram: Praises to the Planet Mercury

Sanskrit / Hindi  Translation  Meaning 
पीताम्बर: पीतवपु किरीटी, चतुर्भुजो देवदु:खापहर्ता ।
धर्मस्य धृक सोमसुत: सदा मे, सिंहाधिरुढ़ो वरदो बुधश्च ।।1।।
Pitambarah pitavapu kiriti, chaturbhujo devaduhkhapaharta.
Dharmasya dhrik somasutah sada me, simhadhirudho varado budhascha.
Yellow-robed, wearing a golden crown, with four arms,
The remover of sorrows for gods, the son of Dharma.
The one who upholds righteousness, the offspring of the Moon,
Riding a lion, bestowing boons, and wise like Mercury.
प्रियंगुकनकश्यामं रूपेणाप्रतिमं बुधम ।
सौम्यं सौम्यगुणोपेतं नमामि शशिनन्दनम ।।2।।
Priyangukanakashyamam rupenaprathimam budham.
Saumyam saumyagunopetam namami shashinandanam.
Dark and beautiful like deer musk, matchless in form,
Gentle, adorned with gentle qualities.
I bow to the one who is the delight of the Moon.
सोमसुनुर्बुधश्चैव सौम्य: सौम्यगुणान्वित: ।
सदा शान्त: सदा क्षेमो नमामि शशिनन्दनम ।।3।।
Somasunurbudhashchaiva saumyah saumyagunanvitah.
Sada shanta sada kshemo namami shashinandanam.
The son of the Moon, gentle and possessing gentle attributes,
Always peaceful, always promoting well-being.
I bow to the one who is the delight of the Moon.
उत्पातरूपी जगतां चन्द्रपुत्रो महाद्युति: ।
सूर्यप्रियकरोविद्वान पीडां हरतु मे बुधं ।।4।।
Utpatarupi jagatam chandraputro mahadyutih.
Suryapriyakarovidvan pidam haratu me budham.
Appearing as a radiant figure in this world, the son of the Moon,
Radiant with great brilliance, beloved by the Sun.
May the wise Mercury alleviate my troubles.
शिरीषपुष्पसंकाशं कपिलीशो युवा पुन: ।
सोमपुत्रो बुधश्चैव सदा शान्तिं प्रयच्छतु ।।5।।
Shirishapushpashankasham kapilisho yuva punah.
Somaputro budhashchaiva sada shantim prayachchhatu.
As radiant as the Shirisha flower, youthful like Cupid,
The son of the Moon and the source of eternal peace.
May Mercury grant us perpetual tranquility.
श्याम: शिरालश्चकलाविधिज्ञ:, कौतूहली कोमलवाग्विलासी ।
रजोधिको मध्यमरूपधृक स्या-दाताम्रनेत्रो द्विजराजपुत्र: ।।6।।
Shyamah shiralashchakalavidhih jnah, kautuhalI komalavagvilasi.
Rajodhiko madhyamarupadhrik sya-datamranetro dvijarajaputrah.
Dark in complexion, adorned with diverse marks, knowledgeable,
Curious, with tender speech, and playful.
Mid-aged, having a reddish hue, a son of noble lineage,
And possessing eyes as red as copper.
अहो चन्द्रासुत श्रीमन मागधर्मासमुदभव: ।
अत्रिगोत्रश्चतुर्बाहु: खड्गखेटकधारक: ।।7।।
Aho chandraasuta shriman magadharma-samudbhavah.
Atrigotrashchaturbahu khadgakhetakadharakah.
Oh, glorious child of the Moon, born of the land of Magadha,
With four arms and radiant appearance, holding sword and shield.
गदाधरो नृसिंहस्थ: स्वर्णनाभसमन्वित: ।
केतकीद्रुमपत्राभ: इन्द्रविष्णुप्रपूजित: ।।8।।
Gadadharo nrisimhasthah svarnanabhasamanvitah.
Ketakidrumapatrabhah indravishnuprapujitah.
Wielding the mace, standing as Nrisimha, with a golden navel,
Resplendent like the Ketaki flower, worshipped by Indra and Vishnu.
ज्ञेयो बुध: पण्डितश्च रोहिणेयश्च सोमज: ।
कुमारो राजपुत्रश्च शैशवे शशिनन्दन: ।।9।।
Jneyo budhah panditashcha rohineyashcha somajah.
Kumarah rajaputrashcha shaishave shashinandanah.
Known as the enlightened one, the scholar, born under Rohini,
The son of the Moon, and a prince in his youth.
He is named Shashinandana during his childhood.
गुरुपुत्रश्च तारेयो विबुधो बोधनस्तथा ।
सौम्य: सौम्यगुणोपेतो रत्नदानफलप्रद: ।।10।।
Guruputrashcha tareyo vibudho bodhanastatha.
Saumyah saumyagunopeto ratnadana-phalapradah.
The son of the preceptor, a guiding star, a source of wisdom,
Gentle, with gentle virtues, bestower of gems and rewards.
एतानि बुधनामानि प्रात: काले पठेन्नर: ।
बुद्धिर्विवृद्धितां याति बुधपीडा न जायते ।।11।।
Etani budhanamani pratah kale pathennarah.
Buddhirvivriddhitam yati budhapida na jayate.
Reciting these names of Mercury in the morning,
Enhances intellect and keeps troubles at bay.
